PlayStation 4.5 NEO release date, specs rumors ,have twice the power of PlayStation 4

Sony's supposedly upgraded variant of the PlayStation 4 (PS4), which is commonly called by fans and media as the PlayStation 4.5, and a project currently known internally as the NEO.

Giant Bomb reported that based on the documents they received, the PlayStation 4.5 NEO will apparently sport a much faster processor than the current-generation PS4. To be more specific, the chipset of this project is going to be twice as fast as the one in the gaming rig right now.

An improved AMD graphics processing unit (GPU) has also been added into the upcoming console, accompanying the upgraded AMD Jaguar processor.

There have been earlier reports suggesting that the PS4 NEO would be able to run standard PS4 games better with more stable framerates. However, Sony might be requiring game developers to make two sets of their games: one for the NEO and one or the standard PS4.

There has been no official announcement from Sony yet. However, one executive seems to have hinted that the console might already be in the works.

As for the specs, the news outlet has shared a comparison of both devices from Sony. PS4 runs on eight Jaguar Cores at 1.6Hz, while the NEO reportedly runs on the same processor but was clocked in at 2.1 GHz. As for the graphics, the current console has AMD GCN, 18 CUs at 800 MHz while the NEO has improved graphics specs with 36 CUs at 911 MHz. For the memory, the PS4 has 8 GB GDDR5 with 176 GB/second, while the NEO is said to have the same but clocked in at 218 GB/s.

It was also mentioned that the upcoming console will support 4K games, but the games do not have to be 4K native.
